Ervin Drake, renowned songwriter and esteemed and beloved member of the SGA Foundation Board, has died. We have lost a great man and a giant of American songwriting. Former SGA President Ervin Drake was a man of immense talent and, equally importantly, a man who remained true to his progressive ideals for an entire lifetime. His musical contributions ("It Was A Very Good Year," "I Believe," "Good Morning Heartache," many more) are surpassed only by his leadership in the protection of human rights, as a tireless advocate for creators, as a true pioneer in the struggle for racial equality, as a supporter of gender and preference equality, and as simply a great human being – not only deeply talented and caring, but very fun and funny, as well. Our hearts go out to his beautiful Edith and their entire family. He will remain an inspiration through his music and his actions forever, serving as a positive force for many generations to come. Ervin, we will miss you, and we thank you, from the deepest part of our hearts.”
